Welcome to the SANAC LGBTI Sector website!
The SANAC LGBTI Sector represents and advocates on the behalf of lesbian-, gay-, bisexual-, and trans*- identifying people, intersex and gender non-conforming people, as well as men who have sex with men and women who have sex with women. As an imperfect gloss, we sometimes use the acronym LGBTI to refer to this diverse group of people. If you’re a bit confused about what all these terms mean, please keep exploring our website.
The SANAC LGBTI Sector is comprised of LGBTI-focused organisations all over South Africa, and endeavours to serve the interests of those organisations, and LGBTI people more generally. As part of the South African National AIDS Council’s Civil Society Forum, the SANAC LGBTI Sector makes sure that the health needs of LGBTI people are addressed. However, because we understand that access to healthcare for LGBTI people is significantly impaired by the stigma and discrimination they often face, the SANAC LGBTI Sector also seeks to address these issues in society.
